The grizzly is a subspecies, Ursus arctos horribilis, of the brown bear, Ursus horribilis, which has small populations throughout North America and N Eurasia. It is classified in the phylum Chordata , subphylum Vertebrata, class Mammalia, order Carnivora, family Ursidae.
